SHEFFIELD Tigers are set to open the doors on their new season on March 28.
Club chiefs are considering their options for opposition but it seems certain the opener will be a challenge match.
Co-promoter David Hoggart is looking at the previous Thursday, March 21, as the club’s press and practice day.
All this is subject to confirmation as fixtures are currently at the planning stage.
Hoggart said: “We’ve been speaking to our landlords about potential dates and this is the way it’s looking at the moment.
“We considered an earlier start but we wanted to ensure the panorama room is available for press and practice to accommodate the media and our sponsors.
“Our opening date is right at the start of the Easter weekend and I believe fans will really want to come along and enjoy a great night, especially with the return of Simon Stead.
“We will talk to other clubs and I need to speak further with my co-promoter Neil Machin before reaching a conclusion.”
Hoggart said Thursday racing had been retained at Owlerton because the prospect of a Sunday was met with mixed reaction from fans. “We looked very closely and talked to our landlords, but all things considered we have decided to stay with Thursday nights,” said Hoggart.
“But a change of race night was just one of many things we looked at as we consider how we can attract more people through the turnstiles.
“We’re looking forward to the new season and we have a team full of riders desperate to succeed.”
