SHEFFIELD number one Josef Franc is confident an injection of experience in his corner will help him enjoy a successful year at Owlerton.
Franc is back for a third spell with the Tigers and has employed Australian speedway legend Jason Lyons as his mechanic for the year to provide a cutting edge.
He said: “Lyonsy is my mechanic this year so it is double experience for the team having both of us there. He is the most experienced rider there is so I hope it will be good for me to have him with me.
“A friend of mine rung Jason in the winter and asked him what he was doing this year and to see if he would be interested in helping me out, and it has come true.
“I am soon moving to Manchester to live with Jason too, so it is good.
“It will cost a few quid but I am sure it will pay off on the track!”
The Czech international has been a solid performer in the Premier League over the last few years and is confident that he can continue in the same vein for Sheffield.
He said: “I have switched my engine suppliers from Jawa to GM and it will take me a couple of meetings to find the right set-ups, but I know I can have a good season here.
“We tried a few different things in the meeting against Belle Vue and me and Jason will try to get the best set-up for Sheffield quickly.
“It is a big, big track and the bikes are very sensitive so you have to make sure you have enough speed or you will not score points. But soon everything will be going the way we want it.”
