Machin calls for fixtures revamp

NEIL Machin wants to see the Premier League Speedway fixture programme dramatically revamped.

The Tigers owner, who is also a British Speedway Management Committee member, is to propose a new structure at next week's Promoters' AGM in Bournemouth.

Machin's proposals would mean the scrapping of the Premier Trophy at the start of the season after clubs reported a lower level of attendances for these meetings.

And that would mean the season would start with Premier League meetings - the top eight finishers would then go into the League Championship and promotion play-off which will give another 14 meaningful fixtures. The bottom six would go into the Young Shield, which will also be staged on a league format.
