It’s good to talk as Cooper looks for new Tigers deal

PAUL Cooper insists he hasn’t retired and would be willing to talk to interested clubs this season.

Cooper, still a firm favourite with Tigers fans for his all-action style and bubbly personality, is keen to spread the word that he’s happy to talk. He admits he will have to wait for his chance because the Premier League teams have now finalised their line-ups but that suits him fine.

“I’ve never said I’ve retired but it seems a lot of people have just presumed I have,” said Cooper.

“I’m captain of the Team Great Britain Grass Track team this year so I have to give that my full attention and that has to take priority, but I’m happy to talk to clubs if they hit injuries and need some help. I don’t just want to pack speedway in like that, I still think I have something to offer and one day I would like to have the chance to ride for Sheffield again.

“So I guess it works both ways, I’ve not been called by any team but then again I haven’t gone out of my way to ring around and make myself available. The fact that I’m not starting the season is no bad thing because of the responsibility of my Grass Track racing, but if clubs hit trouble and need some help then I will certainly be willing to talk to them.

“I just love riding my bike and I have always enjoyed my time with Sheffield. I hope it’s not the end of me and Sheffield, they’re a good club and they always look after you which is a big thing in this day and age.”
