AUSTRALIAN Champion Chris Holder has added his name to the glittering list of star riders for Shane Parker’s farewell meeting at Owlerton in March.

Holder, who won his fourth national title at Gillman last Saturday, will race alongside World Champion Greg Hancock and World Under 21 Champion Maciej Janowski in the big meeting on Sunday, March 18 (6pm).

Parker has also announced several other top riders who are rarely seen at Owlerton these days and he is set to attract a bumper crowd. Parker said: “What can I say about Chris – how laid-back can you get, basically.

“The guy’s got a lot of ability, and it was a pleasure to help him out last year. I enjoyed being part of the Grand Prix scene, and Chris got some places on the rostrum, too, which made it special.”

Holder forms a formidable Aussie partnership at Elite League champions Poole with Darcy Ward – and great news for Sheffield fans is that Ward has also agreed to race in Parker’s big meeting.

Ward, aged 19, a twice World Under-21 Champion in 2009 and 10, is tipped for big things after a meteoric rise through the speedway ranks in his four years racing on these shores.

And, completing an Aussie hat-trick, the man who clinched runners-up spot in this year’s Aussie Championship, Davey Watt, is also en route for Owlerton.

Flying the flag for the Brits, Parker was delighted to confirm six-times (and current) British Champion Scott Nicholls has also agreed to ride in his farewell.

Completing a batch of top-line captures is Swedish star Freddie Lindgren, who captains Wolverhampton in the Elite League and is about to embark upon his fifth season as a Grand Prix regular.

The meeting is sure to attract one of the biggest crowds seen at Owlerton in recent years with interest from all over the UK.

Gates open at 3.45pm on March 18 with tapes-up due at 5pm.
