SKIPPER Ricky Ashworth is predicting a battle for top spot in the Sheffield averages this season.
Ashworth reckons there could be a three-way rush for an automatic spot in the Premier League Riders’ Championship between himself, new signing Shane Parker and hot prospect Josh Auty. But he insists it will be healthy competition which can make them contenders for the Premier crown. Said Ashworth: “We look like a strong team and I think we’ll all be looking for that top spot in the averages. Josh is coming on superbly and will improve again this year I’m sure and Parks will want a successful season as his last in British racing. I think we can be a major force and from a strictly personal point of view I would love to be the number one in the averages.
“I’m as enthusiastic and ambitious as ever and I want to have a successful season with Sheffield. There is a lot of optimism around the club but, having said that, it seems that’s the case every pre-season. There will come a time when the talking has to stop and we need to get on with it and deliver the goods. And with a longer schedule this season we are going to need to get off to a good start, we can’t afford a slow start to the season because every meeting counts from the early stages.
“When the management explained their plans for the team I liked the look of it - we have got together a team which can be powerful.
