Franc delighted to be linking up with Tigers again

JOSEF Franc has revealed a return to Sheffield was always his priority once it became clear he wouldn’t be riding for parent club Berwick this year.

The popular Czech Republic rider is back in Tigers colours after a successful spell in 2010 when he rode in 31 meetings for the Owlerton side. He failed to agree terms with Berwick, but not on financial grounds. As the Bandits ride on Saturdays it was obvious his continental commitments would rule him out of some home meetings.

He said: “It’s a shame about Berwick because I like the people and I have been there a long time but it just wasn’t possible for this season.

“I’m now determined to do a good job back at Sheffield. I still have many friends there from my time with them two years ago and I am very pleased to be going back there. As soon as I knew I wouldn’t be with Berwick I got in touch with Sheffield because that was the first place I wanted to go.

“I enjoyed my time there before and I think I can do a good job for them like I did the last time, they were quite happy with what I did.

“They said they would have liked me back but obviously your parent club always has first option and that’s why I was back with Berwick last year. I scored plenty of points for Sheffield and my ambition is to do the same for them.

“I like the team, I think we can be solid throughout the season but a lot will depend on whether we can stay clear of injuries.”

Franc will make his return to the Sheffield team in their War of the Roses clash with Belle Vue at Owlerton on Thursday, March 22.
