Tigers bosses have hinted at a surprise signing as negotiations continue with riders ahead of a new era at Owlerton.
Co-promoter David Hoggart has revealed how a deal is close to being agreed with a rider who has never raced for Sheffield before.
And he says the outcome of the talks will influence the lower end of the team with Andre Compton and Damien Koppe both in contention.
Hoggart said: “We’re in talks with a couple of high profile Premier League riders and one abroad who has never ridden here before.
“We are keeping our options open until agreement is reached and then we can move forward with the remainder of the team. We could pull off a surprise if things work out, but we must wait and see. So far we have Simon Stead and Adam Roynon in place; both are buzzing about the new season, I’ve had messages from Simon in Australia desperate to know about the team plans.”
Hoggart and other consortium members have been looking at targets in Denmark and Sweden, riders who are keen to launch their professional career in the Premier League.
And they’ve been linked with the experienced Leigh Lanham, who has put in several fine performances at Owlerton down the years.
Meanwhile the club’s opening night will be Thursday, March 27 with press and practice a week before, March 20.
Hoggart says the opening meeting will be a challenge match against opposition to be confirmed.
