Double race deal at Owlerton this evening

TIGERS fans have the chance to see two meetings for the price of one at Owlerton Stadium tonight.

Eric Boocock's men continue their push towards the top four and the play-off zone with a vital Premier League clash with Newport - and the screens throughout the stadium will also be showing the World Cup race-off from Denmark!

The TV action starts at 6pm when the stadium will be open as Denmark, Russia, Sweden and Australia do battle to join Poland and Great Britain in Saturday's World Cup Final, also in Denmark. Sheffield owner Neil Machin said: "It was great to see the British boys win at King's Lynn on Monday and, of course, they included one of Sheffield's own in Simon Stead. Steady spent four hugely successful seasons with us at Owlerton in his early career and it's great to see him on the world stage. He certainly gave a good account of himself on Monday and we should be proud, along with the rest of British Speedway, of what the boys achieved.

"It will be interesting to see who joins them, so we will be showing the race-off at the stadium tonight.

"The Newport match is important to us because we have to keep the ball rolling. We had a blip when we lost at home to Newport but it's different now, we've bounced back and all the guys are feeling good. And we have a massive month coming up in August so we really need to beat Newport tonight. They will be coming here to cause us problems and in Craig Watson they have a rider who we looked at to sign for Sheffield a few seasons ago.

"He knows how to ride this place and he made several guest appearances when Sean Wilson was injured.

"Leigh Lanham is also a fine performer around here who has scored some big points on previous visits and in Kyle Legault they have a rider who knows every inch of our track after starting his career with us.

"But we have riders in form and we're ready for the big meetings ahead." Stadium turnstiles will open at 5.45 tonight as the World Cup event starts at 6 and the Tigers match starts at 7.45pm.
