SKIPPER Richard Hall insists Sheffield are determined to open the season with a win over Belle Vue.
The sides clash at Owlerton on March 22 in the opening team event of the season and the visitors will start as favourites as they are an Elite League side.
But Hall says his Sheffield team will be serious about the meeting and won’t just be approaching it as a curtain raiser to brush off winter cobwebs.
He said: “It’s a great way for us to start the season against a top quality team. It will be a severe test of what we can do and make no mistake we are going into the meeting to win it, we won’t just be treating it as a testing session.
“There will be some nerves in the camp I’m sure of that because we will have riders making their Sheffield debut, but we will work with them and help them and hopefully we will find the right setups quickly on the night.
“I’m sure there will be a big crowd as well and it would be lovely for us to take a win into our Premier League meeting at Rye House two nights later.
“That’s going to be a tough test for us because Rye House are a good team and we need to put on a good show down there, then we go into our League Cup programme.
“We’re heading towards March and I personally cannot wait for the new season to start.
“It’s an exciting one for me being captain and we have a new-look team. I’m looking forward to it.”
The first action of the season will be the Shane Parker Farewell meeting at Owlerton on Sunday, March 18, which includes a rare British appearance from World Champion Greg Hancock and he is joined by a host of Grand Prix stars.
