Bouncing Czech welcomes challenge

JOSEF Franc can't wait for the new Speedway season to start after his high-profile winter move to Sheffield Tigers.

The Czech Republic ace, who will again be busy with continental fixtures but is available for all Tigers fixtures, has spent the bulk of the winter in the UK.

And he's determined to make his switch to South Yorkshire a successful one after spending all his UK career with Berwick and Newcastle.

He said: "It's something new for me to be riding here for Sheffield and I am very happy about it.

"I like the way the team has come together too and I believe we can be in for a successful season. I am determined to play my part and do well for the team and I am looking forward to getting to know the rest of the riders.

"It's been a long winter and to be honest I can't wait to get started now. I like the big and fast Sheffield track and I feel we can be a hard team to beat.

"I feel ready for next week. Belle Vue will be a tough start for us and it will be a good test but also a very good meeting and I am looking forward to it very much."

Franc will be one of two Tigers debutants as Arlo Bugeja has also switched to Owlerton during the winter from Redcar.

Tomorrow's practice session with track action starts at 4.30pm after the presentation of racejackets.
