JOSH Auty celebrated his 21st birthday in style with a full maximum as Tigers demolished a woeful Rye House side for three more Premier League points last night.
Auty and his colleagues will rarely have an easier night than in this points romp against a visiting side who offered little threat, and probably would have rather been almost anywhere other than Owlerton Stadium.
Auty reeled off five straight wins and other unbeaten performances came from Shane Parker and reserve Simon Lambert, as Tigers dropped just six points throughout the meeting.
The writing was on the wall when Sheffield opened-up with two successive 5-1s, Parker clocking the fastest time of the season in the first race and Lambert making it past James Brundle in the next.
A stream of Tigers heat advantages followed, as they extended their advantage in each of the first eight races, the latter three of those being 5-1s with the Rockets’ challenge never getting off the ground.
It was Heat 8 before a Rye House rider gave serious threat of winning a race, but reserve Nelson suffered engine failure to gift another maximum to Hugh Skidmore and Ashley Birks – although Jordan Frampton was more successful in the next race as he took what proved to be the visitors sole victory.
The respite proved to be limited, for after Steve Boxall managed to split Parker and Skidmore in Heat 10 – Skidmore’s late challenge seeing him just miss out on second place – Tigers piled the agony on their opponents with a faultess final five races.
The highlight was clearly Heat 14 with Emiliano Sanchez passing Boxall on the third lap, and then Sanchez and Lambert both getting the better of Nelson in the closing stages of the race.
Auty wrapped things up by combining with Ricky Ashworth for yet another 5-1 in Heat 15, and this rout of the Rockets will leave Tigers in good shape for a much tougher assignment at Berwick on Saturday.
SHEFFIELD: Josh Auty 15, Ricky Ashworth 13+1, Shane Parker 10+2, Simon Lambert 9+3, Hugh Skidmore 9+1, Ashley Birks 8+2, Emiliano Sanchez 5+2.
