Damien Bates has hailed the impact new team boss Joe Screen has had on the Sheffield side.
Screen will put his riders through their paces once again today when the club host their press and practice session at Owlerton (4.30). And it will be the second outing of the week for the Tigers riders as they were together on Monday – and co-owner Bates says Screen came into his own.
He said: “Joe is already giving so much to the team because he’s only just retired as a rider and is up to speed on everything.
“The lads enjoyed working with Joe, and he was buzzing from being around them. He gets on great with Simon Stead, which is a real bonus to have manager and captain working so closely. We also had Doug Wyer and Reg Wilson, two legends of the club, casting an eye over the lads and they were impressed by what they saw.”
Bates also says having former Premier League Riders’ Champion Andre Compton at reserve is a real bonus for the club.
He said: “He will be the ace in the pack, I feel. He’s so quick around Owlerton and to have a rider of his quality lower down the order is a real bonus for us.”
He added: “Andre has a strong desire to get back to somewhere like he was before he took three seasons out of the sport. He should hit the ground running pile up the points which will, in turn, help him with his confidence.”
