JOSH Auty has been named in Sheffield’s side for tonight’s Premier League clash with reigning champions Edinburgh at Owlerton.
And club owner Neil Machin has revealed how the club have left it to Auty to make the final decision as he is returning only six weeks after suffering a broken ankle.
Auty has made rapid progress after he was initially told he would have to miss three months with the injury which robbed him of a place in both the British Final and the World Under-21 Final.
Machin said: “In a situation like this you have to trust the rider and it’s down to him to make the final decision. It’s a bold move by Josh but he feels the ankle is strong enough. Hopefully he will score lots of points for both himself and for us although it may take him a couple of meetings to settle back into the demands of Premier League racing.”
Machin is predicting a tough test for his side with Edinburgh having strength in all departments.
He said: “Edinburgh will make it tough, no doubt about that. They have quality riders throughout their team and we will need to be on our toes to cope with them.
“Kevin Wolbert is a proven international performer and in Tim Webster and Kyle Howarth at reserve they have riders who have been scoring well for their National League clubs so it’s good to see them getting a chance at Premier League level. As we are top of the table it’s important for us to keep up the momentum and it’s a meeting we have to take three points from, we cannot even afford to drop a point.
“I’m sure we will see some good racing on the fastest track in British Speedway.”
