Ashworth happy to be back in action

TIGERS skipper Ricky Ashworth has admitted it felt good to be back on a bike last weekend - and revealed how he's excited by the new Sheffield team.

Ashworth battled through sub-zero temperatures at Scunthorpe's Christmas Cracker meeting which was won by King's Lynn ace Kevin Doolan, who lives in Sheffield.

The Owlerton man managed only seven-points but suffered from a host of mechanical problems mainly thanks to the temperature.

He said: "It felt good to be back on the bike. Naturally I will say I could have done better but winter meetings are all about dusting off the cobwebs and I'm really happy to be going through my paces."

And Ashworth, who will skipper the Sheffield side for a second successive Premier League season, has given the 2010 Tigers side the seal of approval.

"What a team we have," said Ashworth. "I think we have the potential to be one of the top teams in the league. I like the signing of Pepe Franc and he's excited about the new season and his move to Sheffield.

"We'll be rallying round to help Arlo Bugeja at reserve too, he has the ability to be a good, solid reserve - and I expect Coops (Paul Cooper) to challenge for a place in the top five of the team before too long. He had a lot of bad luck last season.

"I want to add a point to my average and also do well in the Elite League meetings I get with Belle Vue. It's a big season ahead for me and I can't wait."
