RICKY Ashworth is desperate to put one over British Champion Chris Harris when Belle Vue visit Sheffield for the opening meeting of the season tomorrow.
Harris made a high-profile winter switch from reigning champions Coventry to the Manchester club and he has been confirmed in their side for the ‘War of the Roses’ clash at Owlerton.
He was an inspirational figure in the Bees landing the Elite League title in a dramatic Play-off final last October and also enjoyed a sensational second half to the Grand Prix campaign where he automatically qualified for this year’s series.
The Cornishman also won the British Final at Wolverhampton, edging out his great rival Scott Nicholls in the final. Now Tigers skipper Ashworth is keen to show him the fastest way around the Owlerton track on what promises to be a night of exciting racing.
He said: “Chris has developed into a fabulous rider and it’s a great opportunity for me and the lads to come up against him.
“It would be a real feather in our cap if we could beat him around Sheffield, that would be a perfect way to start the season for us.”
Ashworth will start tomorrow’s meeting in the number three racejacket which means he won’t meet Harris in the opening race, that honour goes to big winter signing Shane Parker.
