SHEFFIELD Tigers are hoping to welcome back Ricky Ashworth for tonight’s Premier League clash with Workington at Owlerton (7.45).
Ashworth missed Monday’s trip to Glasgow after suffering bruising as a result of his crash in the Premier League Riders’ Championship on Sunday.
His rides were covered by the rider replacement facility and gleaned nine points, but club owner Neil Machin reckons Ashworth’s presence alone is worth more than that.
He said: “We need Ricky and that was apparent at Glasgow because we missed his fast starting and there was extra pressure on the rest of the team. We’re confident he will be back for Workington; it seems like he’s just needed a few days rest after his crash at the weekend.
“We need to bounce back from the defeat at Glasgow. To be fair we put on a good show, they [Glasgow] are the best team in the league and are going to be crowned league champions, but we were with them and with Ricky [Ashworth] in the side we could have got something out of the meeting.”
Workington are without classy Dane Peter Kildermand and will use a rider-replacement.
