RICKY Ashworth has refused to make any excuses for his Ipswich horror show on Friday.
The Tigers skipper managed only 1+1 as Sheffield went down to defeat on their first visit to the Suffolk track since the Witches dropped down from the Elite League.
It was Ashworth’s first ever appearance at the track despite his time doubling-up in the Elite with Poole, Peterborough and Belle Vue.
He said: “It was a disappointing result because after we beat them at our place the night before we all thought we had a good chance of going there and getting a result.
“I’m disappointed with my performance. There’s no excuse for it, I just didn’t ride well enough.
“I ended up on my backside twice and I know I should be doing better than that, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. It’s a shame we couldn’t have done better as a team and got a result from the meeting.”
Ashworth scorched to a 15-point maximum in the home win over the Witches on Thursday, his best display of the season by far.
He said: “It’s been a strange season for me so far. I just hope I can now find some consistency, I think we’ve got down to the right set-up for the bike and I hope to go on a run of good scores from here.
“We have a super team and if we can start avoiding the odd poor result then we can be a major force in the league.”
Ashworth and his Tigers side are back in action at Owlerton on Thursday when Glasgow, including former Grand Prix star Joe Screen, are the visitors. The Scottish side are expected to be one of the top teams in the league this season.
