ASHLEY Birks has paid tribute to the people who have helped him make a fine start to his Premier League career with Sheffield.
Youngster Birks has impressed in the season’s early stages and has qualified for next week’s British U-21 Final at Lakeside. He has formed a handy reserve partnership for Sheffield with Simon Lambert and his contributions to the team have helped them make a promising start to the campaign.
Birks has been coached by former Sheffield rider and co-promoter Louis Carr. He said: “Louis has been great. He’s been there for every training school and has pointed out where I’m going wrong. When he does that it makes things easier for me and I’ve got every confidence in what he tells me. Peter Carr has been brilliant and my brother fantastic. He does the bikes and doesn’t want me involved in that side of things too much because I just get on his nerves!
“I’ve also had some great sponsorship from PBHS and Woskow Browns. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do it.”
Birks and Sheffield continue their Premier League campaign against Newport at Owlerton tomorrow with British U-21 champion Joe Haines a new signing for the Welsh side. And former Sheffield man Kyle Legault makes an Owlerton return in the main body of the Wasps team.
Tigers are set to be unchanged from the side which drew at Leicester in a challenge match on Saturday.
