NIGEL Hinchliffe has been promoted to the senior management team at Sheffield.
Hinchliffe, who has been in charge of opportunities for youngsters at Owlerton in second half racing in recent seasons, will work alongside Neil Machin and David Hoggart following the departure of Eric Boocock.
The role of team manager will be shared between the three and club owner Machin says it’s a logical move for the club.
He said: “Nigel will be with us both home and away and we believe he deserves this opportunity to work at first team level. He has a wealth of knowledge relating to the rule book from his time as a trainee referee under the Speedway Control Bureau umbrella. As a retired police officer he has obvious communication and people skills and in the last five years he has done a fine job as the club’s training instructor and he has done the job with tremendous enthusiasm.
“He is looking forward to his elevated position as part of the senior management team and will bring additional professional attributes with a view to developing team spirit. It’s vital for us to work together as a team and Nigel will help forge a strong link between the riders.
“It’s a new era for the club in many ways and we are all feeling very positive towards a brand new season. We cannot wait to get started against Belle Vue on March 22, that will be a great workout for us before we go to Rye House to start our league programme.”
