Sheffield slumped to a fifth successive defeat when being swept aside 58-38 by Peterborough at the East of England Showground last night.
The Tigers failed to build on the perfect start against Peterborough as they remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League.
Skipper Simon Stead and Australian talent Taylor Poole combined for a maximum return in the opening race, but that only served to provide a wake-up call for the hosts who reeled off six successive heat advantages to take command.
Poole and Stead did make the most of tactical rides to reduce Sheffield’s arrears, but their fate was eventually sealed with two races to spare as home number one Ryan Fisher pipped Ty Proctor to glory in a thrilling finish to heat 13.
And any lingering hopes of a consolation point were quickly dashed as home riders Joe Jacobs and Ulrich Ostergaard both flashed past Tigers veteran Andre Compton to bag a 5-1 in the penultimate race.
Captain Stead admitted: “We have a good team on paper and that makes our poor form all the more frustrating.”
Sheffield will be hoping for a change of fortune when they entertain Berwick at Owlerton tonight.
