JOSEF FRANC will return to lead Sheffield this evening after top-scoring for his country at the Speedway World Cup Race-off on Thursday - and he wants the same at Berwick!
While the Tigers were defeated at home to Scunthorpe, Franc was representing the Czech Republic in Sweden and top-scored, notching an impressive 11 points.
‘Pepe’ was up against world-class opposition but showed his own class with some superb rides, and he admits it took him by surprise.
He said; “I wasn’t planning on doing much because it is such a hard meeting, but I had a good one and I am very happy, of course.
“I always know when the bike is working and when I am confident that the bike is good, I know I will have a few good races.
“I used the same bikes as I used for the Czech GP and I know they can do it for me. Well, on Thursday night they did it!”
Looking ahead to Sheffield’s clash with Berwick tonight, Franc admits that Shielfield Park is a place he likes to visit.
He said: “Berwick is a track I like and somewhere I have ridden a lot.
“This season I have just been there once for an open meeting at the start of the year, but I like the place.
“Hopefully I can go back and get some big points because we need to start winning away, so fingers crossed.”
Sheffield will be without Emiliano Sanchez, who has a suspected broken hand. Skipper Richard Hall, ankle, is a doubt. Both riders crashed out of the Tigers’ home defeat to Scunthorpe on Thursday.
Berwick: Ricky Ashworth, Lubos Tomicek, Lee Complin, Jason King, Sebastian Alden, David Bellego, Alex Edberg.
Sheffield: Pepe Franc, Rider Replacement, Chris Schramm, Richard Hall, Ricky Wells, Hugh Skidmore, Joe Haines.
