Speedway: On form Ricky demands victory

TIGERS ace Ricky Ashworth says tomorrow's trip to Newport is a 'must win' meeting.

Ashworth, who was in fine form during Thursday's hard fought win over Redcar, is determined to see the Owlerton side reach the play-offs.

And he says Tigers have what it takes to enjoy a storming end to the season.

He said: "We need to get a win at Newport and get a good result at Scunthorpe on Monday if we're to edge into the top four.

"If we don't make the top four then we go into the Young Shield where, potentially, we might get more meetings, but that's just a consolation for missing out on the top four.

"Any riders with any ambition really want to push themselves as high as possible and our team is desperate to make it into the top four."

Newport have endured a torrid season so far but they have started to see a slight improvement of late.

Tigers once again include Ricky Wells in their line-up as a guest for injured reserve Paul Cooper.

Wells did a solid job in the Redcar meeting with five-points. Alex Davies, ironically of Newport, guests in the Scunthorpe meeting.

Newport include former Tigers star Kyle Legault who is rebuilding his career after serious injuries.

And in Craig Watson they have a rider who has been a top Premier League performer for the last 13-years.

TIGERS: Josh Auty, Hugh Skidmore, Josef Franc, Richard Hall, Ricky Ashworth, Ricky Wells, Simon Lambert.
