DING Junhui marched into the last 16 stage of this year’s Championship with a 10-2 victory over Glaswegian potter Jamie Burnett.
Holding a 8-1 overnight lead, there was no doubt the Chinese cueman - who lives in Sheffield - was going to progress to the next phase.
And on this showing the adopted Yorkshireman has now seen his odds slashed from 10-1 to 13-2. But the biggest test is yet to come - in four appearances at the Crucible Ding has never got past the second round.
“There is a lot of support in Sheffield for me, especially from Chinese students,” said Ding. “It’s a big help for me. I’m a favourite but I’m not the favourite to win.”
