Sheffield cueman Joel Walker admits he deserved to lose to Li Hang in the first round of the Bluebell Wood Open at the Doncaster Dome.

The 19-year-old, ranked outside the top 80 in the world, was in no mood for making excuses after losing 4-0 to Hang yesterday.

Walker, who practices at Hustlers Sports Bar, in Eckington, tweeted: “Strange day. Could easily have been 3-1 and a different outcome but Li took his chances.”

The talented youngster, who recently qualified for the Indian Open in Delhi, will next be in action at the Paul Hunter Classic, which takes place in Furth, Germany, between August 23-25.

Sheffield-based Chinese potter Ding Junhui edged Judd Trump four frames to three to set-up a clash with Luca Brecel.

Fans favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan will today be competing in the UK for the first time since his World Championship triumph in Sheffield in May. The ‘Rocket’ faces Chinese prodigy Lyu Haotian while four-time Crucible king John Higgins plays Jamie Burnett.

Sheffield ace Adam Duffy also locks horns with Welshman Ryan Day.
