YOUNG Sheffield potter Joel Walker begins his quest to qualify for the China Open today after a hectic festive period of training.
The 18-year-old, ranked 89 in the world, faces Paul Davison in the first qualifying round, which takes place at the English Institute of Sport, at 10am.
If Charnock ace Walker, in his first year on the sport’s main Tour, prevails, he will set up a mouth-watering second round encounter with fellow Sheffield cueman Adam Duffy. It was two years ago Duffy turned professional.
Qualifying for the tournament runs from Wednesday to Saturday, with the 16 winners to go through to Beijing in March.
