Promising Sheffield potter Joel Walker failed to upset the odds in the Paul Hunter Classic as he was comfortably beaten by Marco Fu.

World No 89 Walker, who received a walkover from his scheduled first round clash with Jamie Burnett, lost four frames to Fu, ranked 12 in the standings. The Chinese cueman compiled breaks of 69 and 100 as he booked his place in the next round of the tournament, staged in Fürth, Germany.

Fellow Sheffielder Adam Duffy also exited the event, losing 4-1 to Rod Lawler.

Snooker fans, meanwhile, will be able to watch the top players in the sport free of charge at the Barnsley Metrodome in October. The venue will host the International Championship qualifiers on October 1 and 2.
