SHEFFIELD skeleton bobsleigh superstar Shelley Rudman was celebrating today after winning the World Cup, writes Graham Walker.

The 30-year-old, competing in Calgary, took the top podium spot at the end of an eight race series and then dedicated her win to her parents - her dad suffered a brain haemorrhage last year.

Rudman, who won skeleton silver at the 2006 Winter Olympics, was sixth fastest on the second run and her overall third-place finish in the final race early today was enough to seal a first World Cup title.

Junior world champion and team-mate Lizzy Yarnold, aged 23, was quickest on both slides to win the final race.

Rudman, who is now living in Sheffield, shot to fame at the 2006 winter Olympics in Turin, Italy by winning the silver medal in the skeleton bobsleigh event. The medal was the first and only medal to be won at the Games by a GBR athlete.

Today she told Twitter followers: “Still can’t believe it!! I’m World cup Champion!! :-DDD

“I just won the overall World cup!! Second time it’s ever been done by a British female! I’m soooo happy!

“Dedicating my win to my mum & dad! Real difficult year for us after dad suffered a brain haemorrhage last year. He wanted me to win.

“Thanks to you all for all the lovely tweets! So happy to have achieved one of my goals since starting the sport!:)

“Hot tub time!!!!”
