THE transfer window is often a time of disruption at football clubs, let alone with fans.
Players come in, players go out and there’s the never ending rumour mill of which highly sought after talent is likely to be on the move.
In the centre of the storm are the players themselves.
Things move quickly in football and while some deals may seem an age to complete there’s as many players who train at one club in a morning and are signing on the dotted line at another the same afternoon.
Sheffield Wednesday captain Martin Taylor knows better than most about the machinations of the transfer window having moved several times in his career since making his debut for Blackburn Rovers in March 1999.
He says that footballers are quite relaxed about the transfer window.
“It’s something that we’re all used to now,” he told The Star.
“Particularly the younger lads. They’ve only ever played in the times when the window opens for business in the summer and in January.”
The Ashington-born Taylor, aged 33, switched from Watford to the Owls on the final day of last summer’s transfer window, August 31.
He said regardless of when the move is made the player has to make adjustments to his new surroundings as part of the life of being a professional footballer.
“It’s not really affected me when I’ve moved in January (Taylor was transferred from Birmingham City to Watford in January 2010 and he also signed for the Blues on Febrary 2 2004),” he said.
“The season is in full swing but you just get on with it and get into the games. If you can have a pre-season (at a new club) then that’s great but there’s no real advantage.”
