Sheffield Wednesday sign forward and midfielder

WEDNESDAY today completed beat-the-deadline loan deals for Stoke midfield player Tom Soares and Cardiff striker Warren Feeney.

Both have been signed for a month and will boost the squad for Saturday's visit of promotion-chasing West Brom.

Brian Laws had been conducting a wide-ranging hunt for two players as secretly as possible and was worried that other clubs could provide late competition.

But he safely landed Soares and Feeney before today's 5pm deadline for pre-Christmas loan deals.

The duo are now available to the Owls until December 28.

Feeney, a former Leeds United trainee, has also played for Bournemouth, Stockport, Luton and Swansea.

He also featured for Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League last season, scoring six goals in 22 appearances.

He has played 34 times for Northern Ireland and scored five goals for them.

Owls manager Brian Laws said: "Cardiff have plenty of attacking options, having scored 33 goals in the Championship already this season so it has been difficult for Warren to force his way into the team regularly.

"I am really pleased that Dave Jones has allowed Warren to join us on loan because he is an attack-minded player with a lot to offer in the final third and he will give us a boost going into the festive fixtures.

"We have been creating plenty of opportunities in recent matches but we need to convert those into goals and hopefully Warren can bring something extra to the team in that respect."

Soares was signed by Stoke from Palace in the summer of 2008 for 1.25m.

He tasted the Premier League with Palace in the 2004/05 season and featured in seven top-flight matches last season for Stoke before a loan spell in the Championship with Charlton.

Laws said: "Tom Soares is a player I have admired for some time and he is a midfielder with a great engine who can get forward and provide extra ammunition going forward.

"He played more than 150 games for Crystal Palace so has plenty of experience at Championship level as well as playing in the Premier League. Tom is also an athletic player

and will bring more energy to our squad."
