Sheffield United: Danny Wilson wants firepower

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson is pressing ahead with his search for new a striker before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

Wilson, who has received the green-light to bolster United’s squad from owner Kevin McCabe, is believed to have compiled a dossier of potential targets before last weekend’s FA Cup defeat at Reading.

Although Wilson has refused to divulge the names on his wish-list, claims that Bradley Wright-Phillips could emerge as an option are correct after sources at Charlton Athletic confirmed the 27-year-old will be allowed to leave The Valley should a suitable offer materialise.

However, market volatility means United are likely to explore several lines of enquiry before opening negotiations with rival clubs.

Chelsea’s Conor Clifford and Craig Lynch, the Sunderland centre-forward, could also discover this week whether they will be remaining in South Yorkshire after being handed trials with Wilson’s side. Both youngsters completed 90 minutes of Monday’s Professional Development League meeting with Crewe Alexandra.

Mark Howard, the United goalkeeper, started the match after recovering from long-term injury but was withdrawn at half-time as “a precautionary measure,” according to officials.

United have announced details of ‘An Evening with Carl Bradshaw’ which takes place at Legends of the Lane on March 7. The event, hosted by club historian John Garrett, includes a question and answer session with the former United captain, pie supper and refreshments.

Tickets, priced £16 per person, are available from the box office.

Friday’s visit of Coventry City is not being televised live as previously reported. United’s League One fixture with Bury has been re-arranged for Tuesday 12 February. (Kick-off 7.45pm).
