Freddie Woodward, Sheffield’s Rio Olympic diver, has won gold in the FINA Puerto Rico grand prix 3 metre synchro event with partner James Heatly, from Edinburgh.

They won by 11 points from silver medallists Sebastian Morales Mendoza and Alejandro Arias Munoz of Columbia with Anton Down-Jenkins and Liam Stone from New Zealand taking bronze.

Freddie and James’ highest score came in the penultimate round achieving 76.50 points with their Front 2 ½ Somersaults Double Twist piked.

Sheffield’s Millie Fowler also represented GB in the Grand Prix and coped with difficult outdoor conditions to reach the semifinal of the women’s 3 metre springboard event. Freddie was also a semifinalist in his 3 metre springboard competition.

Head Coach Tom Owens said; “Freddie has been working very hard to develop new dives this year following his success in reaching the Olympics in Rio and we are delighted that this work is now showing in his competition results We are also very proud that five Sheffield divers have been selected to represent GB in FINA Grand Prix events in 2017.”
