SHEFFIELD’S Jonny Marray is delaying a potential operation to a ‘sports hernia’ so he can play in the Australian Open doubles, the first major championship of the 2013 season.

Marray, aged 32, shocked the tennis world when he and Freddie Nielsen won the Wimbledon title last summer, and is now prepared to play through the pain as he and new partner Andre Sa line up as 16th seeds against Lukas Lacko and Igor Zelenay this week in the first round.

Marray told The Star from Melbourne: “I picked up an injury when I returned to training after last season.

“I’ve had an injection and I’m okay to play, but it set my preparations back a bit. I’ll sort it out after the tournament.”
