SHEFFIELD’S Jonny Marray will head to next week’s Australian Open in Melbourne on the back a disappointing start to his partnership with Brazilian Andre Sa.
The pair were beaten in straight sets (7-5 (5) 6-4) in the first round of the Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand, by Xavier Malisse of Belgium and German Frank Moser in the ATP World Tour 250 Series tournament.
Marray, aged 32, who won the Wimbledon doubles title with Denmark’s Freddie Nielsen last July has teamed up with Sa because Nielsen has decided to concentrate on his singles career.
Losing in the first round means Marray misses out on any ranking points. He will share $2,270 of prizemoney with Sa.
