Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones is baffled by teenage starlet Hayden White’s decision to leave Hillsborough but insisted: “We move on.”

Althought the talented right-back was offered a professional contract by Wednesday last month, it appears the 18-year-old has decided his future lies elsewhere, with the youngster edging closer to a move to Bolton Wanderers.

Should the transfer go through, the deal is subject to compensation and could go to an independent tribunal if a compromise is not reached.

Jones told The Star: “We made Hayden a good offer for this football club. Bolton came in for him. He is entitled to go. He feels his future is with them.

“If the kid wants to go, that’s his choice. I don’t understand it but it’s his decision. We move on.”

White, a graduate of the the Owls youth system, began his career as a winger before being converted into a full-back.

According to reports, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs, West Brom and Wigan Athletic have monitored the London-born player’s situation in recent months.

But Bolton manager Dougie Freedman claims he has secured the services of White as he bids to revamp his squad for the 2013/14 campaign.

Asked to outline White’s attributes in April, Jones said: “The kid can catch pigeons. It is about finding his best position now. He is a young boy with a big future if he develops and delivers the potential that we all think he has. Potentially Hayden could be a very good player and go all the way. It is up to him now and that’s why he has got an opportunity.

“A lot of people get bogged down with age. They are either tool old or too young. It doesn’t matter how old you are and that’s been proved by lots of players who play at the highest level.”
