Sheffield United hope to interview the remaining candidates vying to become their next manager later this week.

The League One club have compiled a short-list of seven names with Karl Robinson of MK Dons, Motherwell’s Stuart McCall and former Middlesbrough chief Gareth Southgate understood to feature prominently among them.

Chris Morgan, who took charge on an interim basis when Danny Wilson left last month, has held talks with United after expressing his desire to secure the role.

Paul Dickov, who guided Oldham Athletic to a famous FA Cup victory over Liverpool earlier this year, is also believed to have emerged as a contender.

With the selection process now entering its final stages, United hope to unveil Wilson’s successor within the next fortnight.

An announcement could be delayed if they decide to appoint someone presently in employment.

But if they appoint from within the club or someone not in a job, things could happen quickly.

Leyton Orient’s Russell Slade, Keith Curle and Oxford’s Chris Wilder are also known to have admirers at United.
