YET another classic Steel City derby.

In front of 100-plus spectators at Shirecliffe yesterday, Sheffield United dominated the first half and established a 2-0 lead through Jordan Chappell and a penalty from the lively Diego De Girolamo.

As the tackles continued to fly in, a youthful Wednesday side reduced their arrears on the stroke of half-time, with striker Emmanuel Dieseruvwe heading in Bastien Hery’s corner.

In a much more evenly balanced second period, a fine solo effort from Niall Smith in the 68th minute ensured it was honours even in this Professional Development League Two (North) clash. The full-back cut inside on his right foot and drilled an unstoppable shot past George Willis.

*UNITED: Willis; Williams, Kennedy, Barry, McFadzean; Chapell, Whitehouse, Harriott, Tonne; Ironside, De Girolamo (Smith 89). Unused: Hodder, Owen, Pemberton.

*WEDNESDAY: Jameson; White, McKenzie, Fenwick, Smith; Hague (Ayoola HT), Obileye, Hinchliffe, Hery; Hooper, Dieseruvwe. Unused: Peacock, Dawson, Moses, Hanna.
