DONCASTER Lawn Tennis Club’s head coach John Willis will be serving up a tennis carnival outside the entrance to ASDA’s Bawtry Road store on Sunday between 12.30-3pm.

There will be a mini-tennis court marked out, complete with net and fun items.

John told The Star during a trial run at the venue: “As well as being able to have a little game of mini-tennis with family and friends or other shoppers on the day, people will also be able to try and win prizes, which ASDA are supplying, at 10 pence a go with all the money raised being donated to an ASDA charity.

“It promises to be a fun event and we are hoping for a good response from shoppers and we want as many people as possible to have a go at tennis on the day.”

The event is also designed help promote the Bessacarr-based club’s Open Day at their 12-court Saxton Avenue complex on May 1 (11am-1pm).

Interested parties will be able to try out the facilities at the club - rackets will be provided - and John will also be on hand if anyone wants a few coaching tips or any information on the club including junior coaching.

John will also be happy to hand out advice on rackets and equipment.

“While we hope to attract new members as a result of the Open Day no-one will be put under any pressure to join,” said John. “We just want to show people and family groups what we have to offer.”
