SPECULATION is growing that Rotherham Titans have decided on the successor to coach Alex Codling, who is leaving next month.
It now seems certain that the former Leeds Carnegie prop, Tom McGee, currently coaching Wharfedale of National One, will take over at some point.
McGee, 33, who played more than 70 first team games for Leeds until 2010,is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Yorkshire, and it is understood that Rotherham’s directors feel the time has come to appoint someone who is relatively local rather than from outside the area as was the case with Andre Bester and Codling.
Another factor in McGee’s favour is that he knows Rotherham centre Lee Blackett well from their playing days at Headingley and it is thought that Blackett will continue his role as backs’ coach once McGee arrives.
Before the ex Scotland A player McGee takes over at Rotherham, his first priority must be to make sure that Wharfedale avoid relegation.
