A MASSIVE challenge: that is how Rotherham’s coach Alex Codling describes the threat posed by Nottingham, the Titans’ first opponents of 2013 as he prepares his squad for the Championship clash at Clifton Lane tomorrow.
Codling has made the odd change to the side which competed effectively at Bedford on Boxing Day for the visit of Nottingham who are third in the league with a good record of eight wins in 12 games.
Charlie Mulchrone is rested and his place at scrum half is taken by Jimmy Williams who played impressively in the 9-9 draw in Cork against Munster before Christmas.
Another change sees hooker Ted Stagg recalled to the starting line-up at the expense of Dan Baines who will be one of the replacements.
Codling has been forced to alter the composition of the second row because of an ankle injury to Dan Sanderson.
Toby Freeman moves from the back of the scrum to form a partnership with lock Ben Thomas who will be making his home Championship debut for Rotherham. “Ben has a lot of potential and like the other lads has been buzzing in training,” said Codling.
“The week off after Bedford has recharged the batteries and morale in the squad is good.
“Nottingham are one of the form teams like Bedford and what we are aiming to do is to build on our performance on Boxing Day.
“I have made some changes to the side but no one has been dropped.
“Charlie Mulchrone has played a lot recently and Williams did well at Munster so I have rotated at scrum half.”
