Titans find themselves in the shadows

Exeter Chiefs 43 Rotherham Titans 10

Rotherham Titans had a long, miserable journey back from Exeter after a 33-point loss.

They went down to five tries; humbled by a top-of-the-table team who looked well worthy of their unbeaten record.

Titans were in with a shout at half time at Sandy Park - just 17-10 down, mainly, perhaps, because Chiefs were too fancy in their passing and made more errors in defence than normal.

Sam Dickinson scored a try - an easy-run in for the 6ft 4in player - at Sandy Park, converted by fly-half Mike Whitehead who also bagged a penalty, but the whole side were chasing shadows in the second session

They could not keep pace with the Championship leaders as Chiefs came at them win waves, scoring four tries without reply.

Rich Baxter went past 100 tries for his home town club and the only plus point for the South Yorkshire visitors was that they did not see a repeat of the 76-21 humiliation they suffered on their last game there.

Rotherham are now ninth in the 12-team league. They play Cornish Pirates on Saturday.
