Titans coach drops son for Chiefs clash
Rotherham coach Craig West has taken the difficult decision to drop his son, fly-half Jonny, from the Titans' side to take on Championship leaders Exeter Chiefs tomorrow at Sandy Park.
The decision may surprise some Rotherham fans bearing in mind West's accurate goalkicking in league matches so far. The Titans' fly-half, aged 20, has been in outstanding form with the boot and is the third-highest points-scorer in the Championship.
"Jonny works really hard, is learning all the time and his kicking has been fantastic for us, but there were one or two errors in defence against Bedford last week, so we felt we needed a bit more experience in his position," West Snr said.
"Jonny will go to the bench and Michael Whitehead will take over at fly-half at Exeter."
The other major change in the Rotherham backline sees the return of on-loan centre Luther Burrell who has been given permission to play by Leeds Carnegie.
Burrell's aggression should improve the midfield defence of the side which faces its hardest away game of the entire Championship campaign against a team that has won all its seven games.
The Leeds player takes the place of the injured Brad Hunt who damaged his shoulder against Bedford. The injury will prevent him playing for a minimum of three weeks.
West has also made a change at full back where Matt Farmer takes on a challenge which will test his character and positional sense.
What Rotherham most avoid at all costs is a repeat of the 76-21 humiliation they suffered on their last game at Sandy Park.
Titans: Farmer, Feeley, Burrell, Buckley, Swatkins, Whitehead, Chivers, Conroy, Batty, Prescott, Challinor, Hayter, Kleeberger, Du Plessis, Swindall.
