Rotherham’s poor away form continued in Birmingham last night but they have guaranteed their place in the promotion play-offs at the end of the month.
The Titans earned a losing bonus point against the Championship’s second from bottom side which will be enough to enable them to finish in the top eight of the league.
As the season reaches its climax, Rotherham can end the first stage of their season on a high note if they beat Bristol at Clifton Lane a week today.
In a league game where decent rugby was hard to play because of rain, Rotherham made far too many mistakes, but scored the only try of the match in the second half.
Trailing 9-0 following three penalties by Moseley’s goal kicker Oliver Thomas, Rotherham at last produced a satisfactory move that split their opponents’ defence.
Breaks by centre Jonny Hepworth and full back Cliff Hodgson led to a try on 69 minutes by Kiwi winger Simeon James. That score cut Moseley’s lead to 9-5 but the hosts held on.
This defeat, which means that the Titans have not won away from home since beating Bristol at the start of the Championship campaign in late August, is the third time in a fortnight that Rotherham have lost to a side which is in the bottom four.
Earning a losing bonus point at Moseley takes the Titans to 43 points in the Championship table.
