Having put their away day blues to bed a fortnight ago Sheffield Tigers director of rugby Dan Richmond believes lightning can strike twice, at Caldy, tomorrow.

Last Saturday saw Sheffield Tigers’ mini-revival come to an end as they were downed 18-14 by Birmingham & Solihull, having won their previous two clashes.

The last of these victories was a milestone for Sheffield Tigers as it came at the home of Dudley Kingswinford – their first away win of this SSE National League Two North campaign. While they might be sitting second from bottom they have renewed confidence on the road, which will come in handy as they travel to mid-table Caldy.

“Everyone can beat each other,” said Richmond. “We have set some goals and targets that we can control. It’s irrelevant who we are playing each week – it is about what we do as a group, individually and as a collective. We won our last away game, so we got a monkey off our back in that respect. It is very important to bounce back with a win. We have got to do our job under extreme pressure. That is what we can control and that is what we focus on.”

Despite failing to make it a hat-trick of victories last time out against Birmingham & Solihull, the importance of picking up a losing bonus point was not lost on Richmond. And he insists this desire to scrap for every single point on offer could make a big difference at the end of the season.

“It is important that we keep picking up league points and we were able to do that against Birmingham & Solihull,” Richmond added.

“The boys are aware of the large amounts of positives that came out of that match. It just goes to show what we can achieve.

“There is no lack of belief in our squad and what we are trying to achieve. Of course we have got to win the next game – we have got to win every game.

“But what is important in the performance. That is what allows you to win not once but every week.”
