Another bonus win saw Sheffield Tigers rekindle their promotion hopes when they ran in six tries in a 41-20 victory over Billingham in National Three North at Dore Moor.

Their 14th bonus point of the season put Tigers level on league points with third-placed Waterloo.

Tigers ended the first half with a 24-5 lead courtesy of tries from Peter Swatkins, Biff Pearson and Henry Packard with Tom Outram converting all three.

They finished the job in the second half as, second tries for Swatkins and Packard, along with a fine try and conversion from Outram clinched the win.

Sheffield are still leading North One East despite being edged out 20-16 on their visit to Ilkley.

The home side, sitting sixth, just edged the first half as Leigh Sanders scored all nine of Sheffield’s points from penalties.

Sheffield managed to score their first try of the game in the second half through wing forward David Bradford. Sanders once again found the target with his kick, converting from out on the touchline.

In the later stages Ilkley went down to 13 men and although Sheffield carved out a number of good chances, they blew them all.

Dinnington moved up to third place behind Sheffield and Percy Park when they fought from 16-5 behind for a 27-21 home win over Halifax rivals Old Crossleyans, earning a bonus point. They had two tries each from Tom Doughty and Jonny West, No 8 Will Marshall scoring the other.

Wath on Dearne crashed to a 50-8 defeat away to Selby and Barnsley are holding on to fourth place in Yorkshire Two despite a 48-3 hammering by Moortown at Leeds. Andy Appleyard scored their only points of the game through a penalty.

Sheffield Medicals’ number 10 Rob Watkinson scored his second try in the dying minutes against Roungheagians to take a 24-22 victory. Michael Bodie scored their other try.
