Prop Toby Williams, one of Rotherham’s promising young forwards, makes his full Championship debut tomorrow at Ealing where the Titans complete the first part of their league programme before the play-offs.
Williams was signed by the Titans last summer after playing well for Yorkshire; he made a big impression at Abbeydale when he came on at the start of the second half in last week’s derby against Leeds Carnegie.
“Toby has been in outstanding form as a replacement against Cornish Pirates and then against Leeds, so he fully deserves his opportunity and if Rotherham were in the play-offs this weekend, I would pick him from the start,” said coach Lee Blackett.
As well as Williams beginning a league game, fly half Garry Law, whose season has been ruined by injury, also makes the starting line-up for the first time in any game for the Titans.
Another player who makes his full Championship debut against Ealing is back row forward Ben Morris, who is still on loan from Newcastle Falcons.
With the first of the play-offs against Bristol a fortnight tomorrow, Blackett is not prepared to risk injury to experienced hooker Tom Cruse whose shoulder will benefit from further rest.
In his absence, flanker Jack Preece comes into the number two position.
