One of the most talented younger players in English rugby, fly-half Joel Hodgson makes his Rotherham Titans debut against Bristol on Sunday after the Clifton Lane club arranged a loa ndeal with Premiership side Newcastle Falcons.

Hodgson, aged 21, is needed by the Titans because of a hip injury to Australian stand-off Dallan Murphy.

“ Joel is a very good player and he ripped us apart when Newcastle came to Clifton Lane last season,” said Rotherham coach Lee Blackett.

“The Newcastle coach, Dean Richards, was a bit reluctant to let him go but Joel needs game time . He may be with us for a week only, but you can never tell.

“By the time he turns out against Bristol, he will have trained twice with us.

“When I spoke to him, he was eager to come and he fills a hole.

“I expect Dallan to be fit again next week for the game at home against Nottingham.”

Blackett has also signed until the end of the Championship campaign Robin Hislop, a Scottish prop from Edinburgh.

Hislop is included in the Rotherham squad for Sunday’s league match and is likely to make his Titans debut at Bristol.

“Robin has played 20 times for Edinburgh, including two games in the Heineken Cup,” Blackett added.
