David Holmes will take charge of Sheffield Tigers clash at home to Bromsgrove tomorrow following the departure of director of rugby Dan Richmond.

Tigers parted company with Richmond yesterday.

A Tigers statement read: “Discussions between Sheffield Tigers’ committee and Dan Richmond agreed it was the best for all for him to step down as Director of Rugby.

“During the discussions regarding the future of Tigers, Dan was unable to give any commitment for the next season, largely due to his professional commitments with Sale, Worcester, Bedford Athletic, and England Rugby.

“This move allows the club time to recruit a replacement and gives the new coach adequate time to prepare for the next season. In the short term assistant coach David Holmes will manage the 1st XV until a replacement is engaged.”

Tigers last tasted victory on January 18, albeit they have only played three SSE National League Two North games in that time as Mother Nature flexed her muscles.

But despite having games in hand on the teams around them, the picture is looking far from rosy as they find themselves third from bottom and 16 points away from escaping the relegation zone. Saturday’s clash could go a long way to deciding Tigers’ fate with Bromsgrove sitting one place below them in the table.

Speaking before his exit, Richmond said: “We are capable of winning every game.”
