Rotherham Titans, having destroyed the B&I Cup opposition from the Welsh Premiership by seven tries to one at Clifton Lane, today begin their preparations for the toughest home game by far this Saturday against Championship leaders Newcastle Falcons.

Coach Alex Codling was delighted with the efforts of several players who were on trial, not least the performance of number eight Laurence Pearce who made a powerful debut which he appropriately finished in style by scoring Rotherham’s fourth try on 40 minutes.

Considering that Pearce was playing his first game of the season for Rotherham following a serious knee injury he suffered in a pre-season game, his storming display shows that the Titans may have found a forward who can can make a big impact in the Championship.

Another player who did well on debut was fly half Tom Carlisle who is now dual registered with Rotherham and Worcester Warriors; he converted all seven tries and ran more than 30 metres to score the Titans’ seventh try.

Another debutant, centre Lloyd Hayes from Chester, scored the fifth try.
