Rotherham Titans are working flat out to find a replacement for centre Jack Roberts who left to join Leicester Tigers. Titans’ coach Lee Blackett is in regular touch with agents, contacts and Premiership clubs hoping to sign an experienced centre who would fit in with the demands of the Championship. Rotherham’s close links with northern Premiership sides, Sale Sharks and Newcastle Falcons, which have already this season led to players such as scrum half James Mitchell and forward Sean Robinson appearing for the Titans, may supply the new centre Blackett needs.
Roberts made his Leicester debut at the weekend in the LV=Cup, but with his departure Rotherham have only two permanent centres on their books-Joel Gill and Jordan Davies-and with Chris Harris dual registered with Newcastle, Blackett can’t always be sure that he is available for league matches.
So the need for a new centre is urgent, but whether one will be signed in time for this Friday’s Championship game against Yorkshire Carnegie at Headingley is questionable.
It had been hoped that scrum half Dan White would have recovered from his back injury to play against his old club but he needs more time to regain full fitness.
